Although Justin Bieber has been actively engaging with fans on YouTube, the strict copyright conditions on the site recently allowed a prankster to use the provisions to shut down Bieber on the video network.
According to Huffington Post, Justin Bieber and other artists were the target of an online troublemaker, who used the copyright policy of YouTube to shut down the Justin Bieber YouTube channel. A user by the name of iLCreation submitted false copyright complaints to YouTube, which resulted in the termination of the Justin Bieber channel, as well as that of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Bruno Mars.
Vevo, which operates the Justin Bieber channel, as well as others, released a statement after the shut down. "Someone is making false copyright claims against the Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga channels and YouTube," the Vevo statement read, "has blocked access to the videos as a result. We are working with YouTube to resolve ASAP."
The Justin Bieber YouTube channel and the others have since been reinstated, but it’s unclear how YouTube will change its copyright policy to avoid a repeat incident.
